Cover Reveal & Giveaway: Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff

I'm thrilled to be apart of a team of bloggers who are helping author Jay Kristoff reveal his cover for his upcoming release, Stormdancer. Stormdancer will be released in the US on September 18th by St. Martin's Press.

Check out the cover:

About the book:

A DYING LAND
The Shima Imperium verges on the brink of environmental collapse; decimated by clockwork industrialization and the machine-worshipers of the Lotus Guild. The skies are red as blood, land choked with toxic pollution, wildlife ravaged by mass extinctions.

AN IMPOSSIBLE QUEST
The hunters of Shima's imperial court are charged by their Shōgun to capture a thunder tiger – a legendary beast, half-eagle, half-tiger. But any fool knows thunder tigers have been extinct for more than a century, and the price of failing the Shōgun is death.

A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL
Yukiko is a child of the Fox clan, possessed of a hidden gift that would see her executed by the Lotus Guild. Accompanying her father on the Shōgun’s hunt, she finds herself stranded: a young woman alone in Shima’s last wilderness, with only a furious, crippled thunder tiger for company. Even though she can hear his thoughts, even though she saved his life, all she knows for certain is he’d rather see her dead than help her.

But together, the pair will form an indomitable friendship, and rise to challenge the might of an empire.

It's definitely my favorite and I love it! :D I feel as if it captures the mood and tone of the novel set by the synopsis much better than the overseas cover and I can't wait to read this! :)

  46. I wish we had a combination of the two. I like the dynamic pose of the UK cover but I do like some of the detailing from the US cover (and I really wish there wasn't a random hip showing that seems to hint that she isn't wearing pants but instead has the sort of split skirt that Chun Li wears).
    evilwillow716 at yahoo dot com.

  47. I love the US cover. The colors are so vibrant!! I think the more flashy cover will stick out better in the middle of the dark cover that dominate YA fiction.

  50. I love the US cover, but I've always been partial to works with Jason Chan's artwork on it. The only part of the US cover I don't very much like is the font of the title, which I know, is to suggest the exoticism of an Asian country -- but I find it cliched and annoying because it also suggests that an Asian character based in an Asian world is something 'exotic' in the literary world and media in general. The UK cover's title font has less of this issue, but the character on it kind of gives me the creeps, she's so gray and... dead-looking. She looks like a samurai zombie...

    amy408(at)gmail(dot)com

  51. The US cover makes me want to marry Jason Chan. Japanese steampunk makes me want to marry Jay Kristoff, St. Martin's Press, and everybody involved in agreeing to this.

    adamheine(at)gmail(dot)com

  52. The US cover is much better than the UK one in my opinion. The colors are more vibrant the girl is more real, rather than a painting.

  65. I like the US cover it seems to fit the description but looks more akin to urban fantasy then steampunk... As is common for me I kind of like the UK cover more....

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think the US cover is more dramatic with the contrast of the red against the black against the red and gray. The UK jacket offers contrast but it seems less dramatic with its black against white. Maybe it's easier to get the Brits" attention!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I like them both, though the US cover is definitely edgier. I think I would have picked it up either way (based solely on the cover).

But, I like the US cover above all, because, to me, it looks like the Japanese anime my daughter loves so much...and it has a dramatic art that catches my eye.
