I'm thrilled to be apart of a team of bloggers who are helping author Jay Kristoff reveal his cover for his upcoming release, Stormdancer. Stormdancer will be released in the US on September 18th by St. Martin's Press.
Check out the cover:
About the book:
A DYING LAND
The Shima Imperium verges on the brink of environmental collapse; decimated by clockwork industrialization and the machine-worshipers of the Lotus Guild. The skies are red as blood, land choked with toxic pollution, wildlife ravaged by mass extinctions.
AN IMPOSSIBLE QUEST
The hunters of Shima's imperial court are charged by their Shōgun to capture a thunder tiger – a legendary beast, half-eagle, half-tiger. But any fool knows thunder tigers have been extinct for more than a century, and the price of failing the Shōgun is death.
A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL
Yukiko is a child of the Fox clan, possessed of a hidden gift that would see her executed by the Lotus Guild. Accompanying her father on the Shōgun’s hunt, she finds herself stranded: a young woman alone in Shima’s last wilderness, with only a furious, crippled thunder tiger for company. Even though she can hear his thoughts, even though she saved his life, all she knows for certain is he’d rather see her dead than help her.
But together, the pair will form an indomitable friendship, and rise to challenge the might of an empire.

I like it. Very unique, and much more hardcore than the UK cover. I also prefer her outfit. :)

Wow I can't wait for this book! I loved the UK cover but this one is even more amazing!
ReplyDeleteebriggs23 at gmail.com
I love the cover! Yukiko's tattoo is beyond amazing and the detail on the griffin is what can only be described as epic!
ReplyDeletepherlaithiel (at) gmail (dot) com
I love the blossoms in the UK cover, but the US cover is striking. I love it!

I love the cover it is beautiful! I can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeletecover2coverblog@gmail.com
Love the gryphon/thunder tiger, and the color scheme! Not to mention that typeface is super, super cool...
ReplyDeletebookyurt(at)gmail(dot)com
I love the cover! It really grabbed my attention. I'm so excited for the book!
ReplyDeletemidgetpirateninja@gmail.com
The US cover is certainly attention-grabbing, but I love the UK cover, too. I may just have to get both editions! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to win! blookgirl(@)gmail.com
I think the cover is absolutely amazing! I was wondering how they could top the UK one and they definitely did. onpeakill(at)gmail(dot)com

It's beautiful!!! I love the contrasting red. This is the first I've heard of this book and I'm loving the premise!
ReplyDeleteefender1(at)gmail(dot)com
BREATHTAKING!
ReplyDelete(also, this books sounds amazeballs)
:D
DebraDriza@gmail.com
THIS COVER IS JUST TOO COOL! *flails* Seriously. I like it even more than the UK (which is saying something, because that UK cover kicks butt). I love how it has this animated/illustrated feel and the colors black and red just make my cover-whore self drool.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!

I saw the UK cover and thought it was gorgeous, but the US cover is totally different than what I expected! It looks so manga, it's so cool! I adore manga and anime, so this is an automatic LOVE for me!
ReplyDeleteghohmeyer(at)gmail(dot)com
I absolutely love the cover. It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeletemolly(dot)frenzel(at)gmail(dot)com
I adore both covers, but I feel like the US one fits the idea of the book better. From what I've heard, it's bloody and a bit dark. The UK cover is a bit more pretty, which I love, but sometimes darkness fits better. :)
ReplyDeleterghoyt(at)crimson(dot)ua(dot)edu
LOOOOVE the US cover. I think it gives readers a closer look to what the story's about, more so than the UK cover. EEEP!!!
ReplyDeleteaddicted2novels(at)gmail(dot)com
Love tha cover, she really looks like she can kick some butt.
ReplyDeletesoontorn.miller@gmail.com
I love the cover Yukiko looks awesome.

I like the US Cover but I think I prefer the UK one. :) bookgeeksbookclub AT gmail DOT com
ReplyDeleteZOMG that cover is amazing! This book wasn't even on my radar before, but now I can't wait to get my hands on it. I totally judge a book by its cover, lol. Thanks for the chance to win!

ReplyDeleteI love the cover! I thought that I liked to UK one better but the more I see the US one the more I love it! Maybe it's just the anticipation of waiting for this to come out! I will be in line at the bookstore on Sep 18 come hell or high water!
I like the US one more than the UK one. The UK one seems to downplay the action and gore with its lighter colors.
ReplyDeletechristinabejjani@gmail.com
Definitely love the artwork on the cover. She looks fierce. Love all the red too. Survivorluvr33@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThe cover is absolutely gorgeous! I can't wait to read this one!
ReplyDeleteviolettewaits{at}gmail{dot}com
I LOVE this cover. The UK is awesome with the symbols on the side, but man, the US knocked the UK cover out of the ballpark with their cover! <3 <3 <3
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway!

I love the US cover!! I am a sucker for clack and red on covers. I think it's beautiful and very eye catching.

I'm seriously in love with the US cover! It's totally badass!
ReplyDelete:) Aeicha
wordspelunker(at)gmail(dot)com
I truly think this is one of the most beautiful covers I've ever seen, the girl holding the katana, the choice of colors, it's brilliant!
ReplyDeletegaby_sama@hotmail.com
They're both really beautiful covers! The UK one looks a little softer with the flowers and the US cover shows such a kick butt female heroine. Thanks for the chance to win!

Both covers look great. I like the colors.
ReplyDeletebn100candg(at)hotmail(dot)com
These cover looks so exciting!!!
ReplyDeletelmarste@yahoo.com
I like the US cover best!
ReplyDeletebluesun1218(at)yahoo(dot)com
I have to admit, I am so surprised by this cover! Usually the UK/Australian covers are WAY better than the U.S. ones, but the U.S. cover of Stormdancer is nothing short of phenomenal! It's definitely my favorite and I love it! :D I feel as if it captures the mood and tone of the novel set by the synopsis much better than the overseas cover and I can't wait to read this! :)
ReplyDeletekphnx27@gmail.com
Best. Cover. EVER.
ReplyDeletekittycommittee@cox.net
The best cover for 2012 I have seen! Its so pretty!
ReplyDeletekatvela12345 AT hotmail DOT com
I've got to admit, the UK cover is pretty, but the US cover is a wonderful combination of badass and elegant somehow rolled into one!
ReplyDeletebeth-martin(AT)live(DOT)com
I love Jason Chan's covers and this is no exception. I think it fits the idea of the book well, too, as has been said.
ReplyDeletecorra.jessica @gmail.com
The cover is well made and I believe it presents the book very well! I can't wait till the book comes out!
ReplyDeleteennapenglin(at)sbcglobal(dot)net
The US cover is hot!!
ReplyDeletenaruto_and_hinata(at)hotmail(dot)com
This is the best cover ever o_o Jason Chan is amazing, and he's seriously outdone himself this time. It's STUNNING.
ReplyDeletelorimlee82 at gmail dot com
I think the US cover will appeal more to males than the UK cover. (extemter at hotmail dot com)
ReplyDeleteI wish we had a combination of the two. I like the dynamic pose of the UK cover but I do like some of the detailing from the US cover (and I really wish there wasn't a random hip showing that seems to hint that she isn't wearing pants but instead has the sort of split skirt that Chun Li wears).
ReplyDeleteevilwillow716 at yahoo dot com.
I love the US cover. The colors are so vibrant!! I think the more flashy cover will stick out better in the middle of the dark cover that dominate YA fiction.
ReplyDeleteVivien
deadtossedwaves at gmail dot com
Honestly, I love that she is looking totally killer, with that sword and the serious look. I like girls who look powerful on covers.
ReplyDeletekatecauthor at gmail dot com
the cover is stunning! sstogner1 at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI love the US cover, but I've always been partial to works with Jason Chan's artwork on it. The only part of the US cover I don't very much like is the font of the title, which I know, is to suggest the exoticism of an Asian country -- but I find it cliched and annoying because it also suggests that an Asian character based in an Asian world is something 'exotic' in the literary world and media in general. The UK cover's title font has less of this issue, but the character on it kind of gives me the creeps, she's so gray and... dead-looking. She looks like a samurai zombie...
ReplyDeleteamy408(at)gmail(dot)com
The US cover makes me want to marry Jason Chan. Japanese steampunk makes me want to marry Jay Kristoff, St. Martin's Press, and everybody involved in agreeing to this.
ReplyDeleteadamheine(at)gmail(dot)com
The US cover is much better than the UK one in my opinion. The colors are more vibrant the girl is more real, rather than a painting.
ReplyDeleteajiehuang1997 (at) gmail (dot) com
So pretty!
ReplyDeletemiddlekmissie (at) gmail (dot) com
I think its amazing.... so eye catching!
ReplyDeleteloniflowers@yahoo.com
Love the cover. Want to read it!
ReplyDeletelewis dot tim at gmail dot com
It caught my eye right away. It is what I think is missing in some covers these days--- real art!
ReplyDeletenheck AT natashamheck DOT com
It has a much darker feel to it than the UK cover. It's pretty and when it releases I want a copy of both versions on my bookshelf.
ReplyDeletelongmichelle15 (AT) gmail (DOT) com.
Lovin' the cover!! Can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeletelexie.bookbug at gmail dot com
I think the US Cover is beautiful! I like the red background with the lotus because it gives it a blood stained look. The girl looks so calm and prepared to fight with the wind blowing at her hair. The outfit and tattoo compliments her character too.

ReplyDeletethereviewsnews(at)gmail(dot)com
Totally love the cover!!
ReplyDeleteme_winy AT yahoo DOT com DOT ph
I like the US cover it seems to fit the description but looks more akin to urban fantasy then steampunk... As is common for me I kind of like the UK cover more....
ReplyDeleteI think the US cover is more dramatic with the contrast of the red against the black against the red and gray. The UK jacket offers contrast but it seems less dramatic with its black against white. Maybe it's easier to get the Brits" attention!
ReplyDeleteI like them both, though the US cover is definitely edgier. I think I would have picked it up either way (based solely on the cover).
ReplyDeleteThe cover is eye-catching - I like the US one better, though. I would definitely pick this up to check it out.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Jay before today. Added this book on my GR list & can't wait for it to come out.

ReplyDeleteBoth US and UK covers are beautifully done. But, I like the US cover above all, because, to me, it looks like the Japanese anime my daughter loves so much...and it has a dramatic art that catches my eye. I would love to get this for my daughter. I know she would love it, because she is sooo into the Japanese anime, art and culture. Thanks for the giveaway!! babyjazz1972@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love the cover! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeletenatasha_donohoo_8 at hotmail dot com
I love the cover! It's a change from the usual girls in beautiful dresses, but it's just as stunning. Nice coloring, too!
ReplyDeletebribrimcb@gmail.com
I love the US cover! The girl looks friggin awesome, and I love the how the background just enhances the cover's fierceness. However, I think I prefer the UK cover's font.
ReplyDeleteThanks for having such an awesome giveaway! :)

Love this cover - beats the hell out of the UK cover! Absolutely lovely.

Wow, both covers look great. We probably prefer the UK one a smidge better, but there is definitely a hard edge to the US one that is cool. (Random question though: is that a hole in her pants? Why?)

ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! It's a great one!

I love the cover! It's beautiful and dark. I totally love the Thunder Tiger (Griffin)and the little bit of Yukiko's skin that is showing. It's like a piece of artwork. The UK one is great too, but I love the Griffin!

hrose2931(at)gmail(dot)com
omg I love the US cover, it looks wicked awesome.
ReplyDeleteterilhack at gmail dot com
There is so much greta stuff going on in this cover, the story sounds awesome and looks eye catching.
ReplyDeletekasuranna at yahoo dot com
All I have to say about the US cover is that it outshines the UK cover. I had the UK cover on my phone wallpaper and mac desktop... but now they’re both scrapped and shining the US cover in all its glory. Love the red and black theme with the lotus’s as well as Yukiko’s tattoo sleeve and the griffin!
ReplyDeletebookprobereviews at gmail dot com
Love the red on the US cover! Cannot wait to add this to my TBR pile.
ReplyDeletebooks4susie@aol.com
Love the colours, the cover is so enchanting. I just want to pick up the book and read it!
ReplyDeletepriyadabak@gmail.com
I LOVE the cover. The typefont of the title, the black and red background, Yukiko's stance, the way she's holding that sword, her tattoo, the griffin in the background, looking so powerful... it's all perfect, which might be overstating it, but I simply love it.
ReplyDeleteelou613 at gmail dot com
The US Cover literally blows my socks off! I mean why would they even consider having two covers when this one totally out trumps the other? The art is superb! and you can totally tell it was made JUST for this book. lovely it makes my heart bleeed with neeeeeeeeeeed
ReplyDeletepabkins ats the gmail dots the com
The American version is very energetic, but I think I prefer the UK version slightly. Both are full of win.
ReplyDeleteIt's a kickass cover.

I actually really like the UK cover with the cherry blossoms, but both covers are beautiful. I love the red and the black, and I love her tattoos!
ReplyDeletethe imagine tree at aol dot com
The US cover is gorgeous, the bold color scheme of red and black draws you in not to mention the intricate designs on the main character's arm and the griffen swooping down from the top corner. I can't wait for this book to come out!
